Description

*Uses:

Echinacea supports immune health to help you stay feeling your best and supports the body’s immune defenses to stay feeling healthy. Dried root can be decocted as tea, added to herbal formulations, or used in tincturing.

There are two species that are easily found, Echinacea purpurea and Echinacea angustofolia. Both E. purpurea and E. angustifolia are used interchangeably in herbal medicine. E. angustifolia has a fleshy taproot whereas E. purpurea has a fibrous root. Most herbal medicines use the root and some use the seed as well. They are generally considered equal by herbalists.

Some believe that Echinacea purpurea is inferior to Echinacea angustifolia and therefore less effective. Echinacea angustifolia is certainly more rare and many find it a bit more difficult to grow. The answer to the question of which one to use is basically up to interpretation; there are many herbalists who will line up on either side of the argument with strong evidence that both of them work.

Qualities: Slightly sweet, then bitter. Warm, dry tingling sensation on the tongue and mucous membranes.

Precautions
Persons with allergies to other members of the Asteraceae family should exercise caution with Echinacea, due to the presence of Echinacea pollen. We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
