Description
*Uses:
With a long history of use in folk herbalism for its beneficial properties, the herb can be macerated as a liquid extract or steeped as shepherd’s purse tea.
Shepherd’s Purse owes it’s name to the heart-shaped seed pods that resemble leather pouches that were once carried by shepherds.
Another common name for this herb is ‘Mother’s Heart’, which ties in with it’s affinity for the female reproductive system, being historically used in treatment of gynecological conditions. Beneficial for heavy periods, cystitis and chronic diarrhea. Also helpful to sip after delivery to ease postpartum bleeding. Also used as a helpful addition to vaginal steams and sitz baths.
